Sleep Apnea & Snoring

People with sleep apnea often snore loudly and can even stop breathing for short periods of time while sleeping.
Sleep apnea occurs when tissue in the back of your throat collapses and blocks your airway, reducing the amount of oxygen being delivered to the rest of your body. This lack of oxygen causes you to wake up, occasionally startled, but often so quickly you don’t even notice. This can happen hundreds of times in a single night, which may cause you to wake up feeling tired and not at all refreshed.

Symptoms of sleep apnea include

Sleep apnea can lead to numerous health issues, including increased risk for stroke and heart problems, diabetes, high blood pressure, weight gain, depression, irritability and accidents caused by daytime sleepiness.

If you believe you may have sleep apnea, discuss your concerns with us at Coastal Sleep Solutions. We may have some highly customized solutions for you.

Once diagnosed, there are several treatments for sleep apnea, including simple oral/dental appliances, laser treatment, etc.

NightLase®

Non-surgical Airway Enhancement & Anti-Snoring Treatment

Snoring Treatment utilizing Nightlase is a proven effective treatment for snoring that can help sleep apnea issues as well! Fotona’s NightLase® therapy is a non-invasive, laser treatment for increasing the quality of a patient’s sleep.

NightLase reduces the effects of sleep apnea and decreases the amplitude of snoring by means of a gentle, laser-induced tightening effect caused by the contraction of collagen in the oral mucosa tissue. It’ relatively painless and fast.

We all know dangerous obstructive sleep apnea can be and how challenging nightly snoring can be.

Many people have their family doctor prescribe a CPAP device. However many people find the CPAP “mask” device difficult to use. Others have mild enough sleep apnea or snoring that they really don’t need a CPAP mask.

ProSomnus Sleep Devices may be a solution!

For patients who find their CPAP miserable to wear, inconvenient when traveling, or useless when there is no power (during thunderstoms, hurricanes, or when camping), an oral sleep device can be a lifesaver.

ProSomnus Sleep Devices can help you get the rest – and the oxygen – your body needs. Plus, the precision manufactured devices are incredibly strong, while also offering a profile so slim and comfortable, you may forget you are wearing it.

Braebon Home Sleep Tests

Snoring Treatment FAQs

Snoring occurs when the soft tissue structures of the upper airway collapse onto themselves and vibrate against each other as we attempt to move air through them—much like the noise a straw makes when you try to draw the last drop of a thick milkshake through it. This produces the sound we know as snoring. Large tonsils, a long soft palate, a large tongue, the uvula, and excess fat deposits in the throat all contribute to airway narrowing and snoring. Typically, the more narrow the airway space, the louder or more habitual the snoring. By using laser therapy or an oral device the dentists at Coastal Sleep Solutions truly can help you STOP snoring.

Oral Appliance Therapy (OAT) is a therapy that treats snoring and Obstructive Sleep Apnea using a dental appliance that comfortably opens the airway during sleep. This is accomplished by slightly addressing the positioning of the lower jaw and how it is protruded. Our dentists at Coastal Sleep Solutions customize the appliance to your mouth making it incredibly comfortable and easy to use.

At Coastal Sleep Solutions, we can perform a number of treatments to help stop the progression of gum disease.

Yes. Sleep disordered breathing is a full spectrum of potential breathing disorders. After normal breathing, there are two classes of “primary” snorers. The first, Non-Sleepy Snorers, they snore but do not suffer any ill-health effects. The second group, Sleepy Snorers, suffer fatigue and/or excessive daytime sleepiness without the cardiovascular damage caused by apnea. Then, there is obstructive sleep apnea. At Coastal Sleep Solutions, we can determine what you are dealing with and present you with options to address the precise issue.

Yes. Recent studies show that up to 25% of patients that have successfully stopped snoring using laser therapy or an oral appliance still experience obstructive sleep apnea events. Follow-up testing and adjustments are needed to achieve long-term success and to decrease the health risks and excessive daytime sleepiness that often accompanies sleep apnea. At Coastal Sleep Solutions we will closely monitor your individual progress and circumstances and make adjustments as needed.

Some physicians say oral appliances for sleep apnea are effective for sleep apnea Decades ago, The American Academy of Sleep Medicine granted acceptance to oral appliance therapy for sleep apnea treatment, especially in cases where the CPAP machine is not well tolerated or regularly used. At Coastal Sleep Solutions we meet with you to determine if YOU can benefit from an oral device for sleep apnea. This consultation costs nothing and we will carefully walk you through all of your options.

Oral appliance therapy (OAT) is not 100% effective–especially in those patients who have severe sleep apnea. We can discuss other options with you if you are in that very small group of patients.

You have NOTHING to lose! Contact Us Now to discuss your sleep/sleep apnea and snoring issues and you will learn about your options. No high-pressure, just information.
